[MUSIC] "Maybe The Night" by Ben&Ben

Filipino music is alive in this age of millenials! And the 9-piece band called Ben&Ben is one of the rising stars spearheading today's OPM scene.

Few months ago, I came across their music video of Maybe The Night on YouTube. That was life-changing! Before that, I've only ever heard one song from them. It's called Bibingka, a love song that was part of a Spotify Playlist for Pinoy Christmas songs. Back then, I didn't bother to look them up. While Bibingka was a good song with some catchy lines, it didn't strike that much appeal on me.

But after watching their music videos and listening to their other tracks in Spotify (Kathang Isip, Leaves, and Ride Home, to name some), I've completely fallen in love with them... seriously!

Maybe The Night gave me a severe case of LSS. The lyrics were well-written and I can tell they came from a brain of pure talent and a heart of pure love. For the tune and instruments - they had me with the piano, the guitars, the violin, and the percussions - or in short, with everything. I guess I've had enough of songs from solo Filipino artists whose backing tracks were all bounced with synthesizers that hearing something that has been recorded with real acoustic instruments and sophisticated areglo feels like a breath of fresh air. The music video is also commendable for its simple and meaningful portrayals of different forms of romantic relationships. Unconventional but very realistic.

All these made me run to my workstation and come up with my own instrumental version. Check it out:

MTN is now also part of the official soundtrack of the rom-com movie "Exes Baggage" which stars Angelica Panganiban and Carlo Aquino. Fellow 90's kids are raving about this - including errr, me.

I am excited for Ben&Ben's growing music career and looking forward to hearing more beautiful songs from them. They still haven't released any full studio album, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before we have one from them.

Anyone else excited? :)
